Jerome Slater's Obituary
Jerome Lee Slater, passionately known as “Jerry”, departed this life on May 2,2026 in his home at the age of 78.
He was born July 10th, 1947 to Artis T. Slater and Thelma E.Slater ( McGee/Peoples) in Decatur,Illinois. He attended Eisenhower High School and served in the US Army. He was later employed at Wagners Casting Company.
Jerome enjoyed helping anyone he could and was a very giving individual. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his cousin Willie Lee, back in the day. He accepted Christ at a young age at Church of The Living God CWFF on Franklin Street and loved singing and traveling with the choir.
He is survived by his children: Donte Lofton, Sheena Miller, Nathaniel Slater, Deanna Slater and Heather Riley; siblings, Patrick Slater, Rachael Slater, Christine Matthews, Barbara Howard, Vernell Wilson, Shannon Slater (Charity), Derran Peoples (Patricia) and Gregory Peoples, and a bonus brother, Allen "Bam" Henry; special aunt, Charlene Young; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two uncles, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Jerome Slater will take place from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Church of the Living God CWFF Temple 46 in Decatur. Homegoing will follow at 12:00 PM. Jerry will be laid to rest at Camp Butler National Cemetery on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM. camp
