John Houser's Obituary
Decatur- John “Gubbs” Houser, 75, of Decatur passed away on Monday August 15, 2011 in St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room.
John was born on October 3, 1935 in Decatur the son of Herman and Erna Schrein Houser. He worked at Superior Welding and retired from Kopetz Manufacturing. He was an avid outdoorsman; He loved to hunt and fish. He was member of Ducks Unlimited and the NRA. He married Winona “Winny” Griffith on January 24, 1955 in Decatur.
Surviving are his Wife, Winny; sons, Mark Houser Penny of Oakley; Todd Houser Michele of Decatur; daughters Zonna Houser of Decatur; Kelly von Nordeck John Goodbrake of Decatur; brother, Eugene “Butch” Houser Judy of Decatur; grandchildren, Holly Houser, Tiffany Houser, Brock von Nordeck, and Riley Houser.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Larry and Tom Houser, and one great-grandson, Gage Durbin.
“Poppy” was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed.
A service to celebrate the life of John will take place at 2:30 pm Friday, August 19, 2011in Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery and conclude with the “Flight Home” Ceremony. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. The family requests casual attire.
