John Pierce
Kurt, Brian, Betsy and Don — I'm so sorry to learn you lost Joyce. She stands out as a very bright spirit of my youth, always so vibrant, caring and cheerful. And always a big, beautiful smile. She was a very positive influence on all of us in the neighborhood, and I remember things she taught me or did for me almost every day. In fact, I remembered a tiny something your Mom (well, not yours, Don) taught me just this past Saturday: when I was 12 or 13 I made the poor decision one day to deliver newspapers barefooted. Walking across your front lawn, I stepped on a bee. Your Mom saw me hopping around like a turned rabbit (or more likely heard me whining like a 4-yr-old) and knew what had happened without asking. She made a quick baking soda paste and slapped it on the sting bringing instant relief. Forty-some years later your Mom's wisdom and caring saved the day for me again on Saturday. She taught us a lot, but she mostly showed us how to approach every day with a positive outlook. She was a gift to the neighborhood. So sorry for your loss. John Pierce
