Kaye D. Smith's Obituary
Kaye D. Smith, 64, of Decatur, died on Thurs. Oct. 07, 2004 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Concelebrated Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life will be 11 a.m. Mon. Oct. 11, 2004 in St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sun. in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Isidore Cemetery, Bethany. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. James School or DMH Hospice.
Kaye was born on Nov. 18, 1939 in Watseka, the daughter of Ora J. and Rowena White Baer. She graduated with a Business Education Degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1961. Kaye spent several years teaching Business at Lakeview High School. She also taught at St. Teresa High School and was a substitute teacher for the Mt. Zion school district. In the past several years she was employed as an administrative secretary at St. James Catholic Church. Kaye was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dalton City and most recently was very active at St. James Catholic Church. In addition to caring for her own four children, Kaye was a loving foster mother to over twenty babies that were placed by Catholic Charities. She married Martin "Marty" Smith on July 20, 1963 in Hoopeston and he preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1997.
Surviving are her children: Teresa husband, Eric Curtis of Decatur; Tim wife, Sara Smith of Champaign; Jennifer husband, Doug Furlow of Williamsville; Craig wife, Brandy of Ballwin, MO; grandchildren: Luke Smith, Jack Curtis, Olivia Smith, Abbey Curtis, Walker Smith, Brayden Furlow and Macy Smith. Three brothers, two sisters, several nieces nephews cousins and friends.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
