Lawrence J. "Larry" Heynen's Obituary
Decatur-Lawrence J. “Larry” Heynen Jr., 88, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Symphony of Decatur with his family by his side.
Larry was born November 27, 1925, in Decatur, the son of Lawrence J. and Mary C. (Boehm) Heynen Sr. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received a Purple Heart. He was previously employed as a letter carrier with the USPS retiring in 1985 after forty-one years of service. Larry was a member of Saints James and Patrick Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered at St. James Bingo for over twenty years. He married Margaret M. Midden July 4, 1951 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Decatur. They shared over sixty-three years together.
Larry leaves behind his wife Margaret of Decatur, children Steve Heynen, Joanie (Kevin) Durchholz, and Laurie (Rocky) Van Natta, son-in-law Larry Richardson, grandchildren Larry Richardson, Kerri Richardson, Jennifer Durchholz, Julie (Tim) Brilley, and Hailey Van Natta, five great-grandchildren, and sisters Elizabeth Perry and Sr. M. LaClare OSF.
Larry was reunited in Heaven with his parents, and daughter Mary Kay Richardson.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Symphony of Decatur for all of their wonderful, loving care.
Mass of Christian Burial to Celebrate Larry’s life will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay St. Decatur, with Rev. John Burnette, Celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials are suggested to Saints James and Patrick Parish.
