Lena Vigneri's Obituary
Pekin – Lena Vigneri, 98, of Pekin, formerly of Decatur, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2013 at Apostolic Christian Restmor, Morton.
Lena was born April 25, 1915 in Decatur to Italian immigrant parents, Ben and Rose Scardello. She married Sam Vigneri on June 5, 1940 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 2006. Four brothers also preceded her in death.
Lena is survived by a son Dr. Joseph (Betsy) Vigneri of Casper, WY, a daughter Rose Mary (David) Detweiler of Pekin, Il, and a sister Florence (Victor) Bertoldo of San Jose, CA. Also surviving are 5 grandsons: Dr. Sam (Stacia) Vigneri, Dr. Robert (Katie) Vigneri, Joe (Renae) Vigneri Jr., Dr. Mark (Leslie) Vigneri, all of Casper, WY; and Adam (Tara) Detweiler of Bloomington, along with 19 great-grandchildren.
Lena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family was always her 1st priority. She instilled in her family a strong sense of faith.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Decatur and also attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Richard Weltin celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Apostolic Christian Restmor, 1500 Parkside, Morton IL 61550.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, CNA’s, and support staff at Apostolic Christian Restmor for the kind, loving, and compassionate care provided to Lena during her stay there for the past 2 ½ years. A special thank you to Marie and her family for their friendship. And a heartfelt thank you to her past caregivers Ginny, Verda, and Debbie.
