Leo T. Schimanski's Obituary
Leo Theodore Schimanski, 92, of Decatur, died on Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 in his home.
Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life will be 11 a.m. Tues. Feb. 21, 2006 in St. James Catholic Church, Very Rev. James O'Shea celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements.
Leo was born on July 28, 1913 in Decatur the son of Victor and Rosa Scherer Schimanski. He worked as an electrician for A. E. Staley Mfg. Co for 43 years retiring in 1977. Leo was a lifetime member of Saint James Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council # 577. He was a WWII Army veteran. Leo was a lifelong bowler. He won many bowling honors and was inducted into the Decatur Bowling Hall of Fame. He married Katherine A. Russell on Jan. 21, 1950 in Decatur and she preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2002.
Surviving are his children, James Schimanski of Decatur and Kay Schimanski of Naperville. Sisters: Florence Boland of Belleville and Mary Pfile of Decatur and many nieces and nephews.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; wife and three sisters, Dorothy Dayton, Helen Henneberry and Anne Hooley.
