Leon J. Vemmer's Obituary
Decatur – Leon J. Vemmer, 90, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Fair Havens Christian Home.
Leon was born January 30, 1927 in Pana the son of Henry and Victoria (Morchipont) Vemmer. A WWII Navy veteran, Leon worked as a machinist at Borg Warner for 35 years retiring in 1989. He was a charter member of Holy Family Church and member of: Knights of Columbus Darrell W. Beck Council #577, Very Reverend Jeremiah J. Murphy Assembly #211, American Legion #105 and past member of the Macon County Honor Guard. Leon married Mary E. Willson June 18, 1949 in Pana.
Surviving is his wife, Mary of Decatur; daughters: Cheryl (Mark) Somers, Mary Beth (Tim) Arndt and Laural (Jim Trusner) Born all of Decatur; son, Todd (Shelly) Vemmer of Decatur eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, G.J. Arndt.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life will be 10 am, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Very Rev. Joseph M. Molloy, V.F., celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm, Monday at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service will be at 4:30 pm. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Pana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic School.
