Leona May Steenblock's Obituary
Leona May Steenblock, 85, of Decatur, lost her long battle with multiple cancers on January 8, 2011, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 24, 1925 in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, the daughter of Rose Elizabeth Rush and James C. Turner.
Leona married William G. Walters on November 5, 1944. He died in 1958. She married William L. Steenblock, February 20, 1965.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; two daughters, Karon Kay Zeiters Terry, Minonk, IL, and Judy L. Mills, Ashland, IL; one grandchild, Tiffany Kay Gehrke Darin, Woodson, IL; two great-grandsons, Ty and AJ Gehrke; one sister, Dotte L. Turner; two nephews, Hal and Kevin Russell; two nieces, Lisa and Rose Russell; and one great-niece, Brooke Burch, all of Columbus, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lula, L. Kathleen Turner, and Beulah Baker; half-brothers Charles and Denton Turner.
Leona had been a licensed beautician and worked at Art’s Beauty Salon’ and Roberta’s Beauty Salon.
She was affiliated with the Illiopolis Christian Church and Grace United Methodist Church, Decatur. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi International sorority and Moose International.
In her spare time, Leona enjoyed writing and illustrating children’s stories for her family; all kinds of crafts; and ballroom dancing. She especially enjoyed dancing the tango and samba.
Memorial service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, January 13, 2010 in Moran and Goebel Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Illiopolis, IL.
