Lum H. Tipsword, Jr.'s Obituary
Lum H. Tipsword, Jr., 86, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1:40 a.m. Lum’s family will receive friends and family for visitation at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and there will be a service to celebrate his life on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park in Decatur, IL.
Mr. Tipsword was born July 9, 1932, in Decatur, the son of Lum H, Sr. and Viola G. (Kinman) Tipsword. He married Mary E. Finney on November 28, 1951. Lum retired from Firestone after 30 years of service. Lum was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Second Church of God.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Mary; daughters, Lisa Tipsword-O’Daffer (Mike O’Daffer) of Decatur, Jan Hall (Rick) of Macon; grandchildren, Gretchen Tipsword-O’Daffer (Matt Lichtenberg), Stephanie Long (David), Griffin Tipsword-O’Daffer (Alex Hamm) and Kelsey Rohde (Ben); great-grandchildren, Nova Tipsword, Parker Long and Baby Long, on the way; sister, Nancy Donovan of Crawfordsville, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
Lum was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sheila Tipsword; grandson, Kenny Tipsword-O’Daffer; sisters, Frances Trimmer and Maxine Huff; and brother, Bill Tipsword.
Lum’s greatest joy was his family. His favorite week of each year was the week-long family reunion at Camp Maranatha. In his later years, he would often state that his great-grandchildren were his reason for existing. Lum was full of love and laughter. Those he loved never doubted his affections. He will be remembered as a loving Husband, Dad, Poppop, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.
