Decatur- Marjorie Ruth (Goddard) Smith, 92, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in Fair Havens Christian Home. Today, our mother is smiling on us from heaven.
Graveside services to celebrate Marjorie’s life will be 4pm Monday, August 25, 2014 at Graceland Cemetery with the eulogy by nephew Jim Goddard. Memorials may be directed Fair Havens Christian Home, in lieu of flowers.
Marjorie Ruth (Goddard) Smith was born on February 14, 1922, on Valentine ’s Day. She was the youngest of eight children born to Charles E. and Lena Hunter (Rose) Goddard in Windsor, IL. Marjorie graduated from Windsor High school. After Paul and Marjorie raised their family, she learned to drive, and gained some independence. Soon after she went on to volunteer work, she was offered a position as a care sitter at DMH, and later became private home health care sitter, where she made many lifelong friends. She was always such a loving and caring mother. She was also a member of the Northwest Christian Church. She married Paul Smith on December 20, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. Paul preceded her in death on October 15, 1980. They shared fifty eight years together.
She leaves behind her daughter Janice (James) Harper of Mt. Zion, sons, Danny P. Smith of Decatur, Roger L. (Barbra) Smith of Loveland Co.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was reunited in Heaven with her husband and parents, six brothers, one sister and grandson Kip L. Harper.
