Mary Eileen Anderson's Obituary
Mary Eileen Anderson, 92, of Decatur, IL, slipped into the loving arms of her Savior during the early morning hours of Monday January 17, 2011 in Imboden Creek Living Center, Decatur, IL
The former Eileen Daugherty was born on October 6, 1918 in Owaneco, IL the daughter of Robert Earl and Verla Ann Bales Daugherty. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1935 with bachelor’s degree in education. She married Joseph Marion “Andy” Anderson on June 20, 1943 in Tower Hill, IL.
She retired in 1977 from 40 years of teaching. Music was a vital part of her life. She directed and sang in church choirs in Pana, Bloomington, and Decatur. In her career and her retirement, Eileen enjoyed doing for others, including civic volunteer work, welcoming guests to her home and arranging special family events. Retirement also allowed extra time for her enjoyment of reading, travel, and Garden Club activities. She was very active and involved in Riverside Baptist Church, with emphasis on its mission outreach.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and her loving husband, who died in 2007. Surviving are five children, Joseph Sylvia Anderson of Bloomington, IL; Margaret David Handyside of Watertown, WI; Brad Karen Anderson of Wapella, IL; Cheryl Miller Joel of Clarkson Valley, MO; Richard Christine Anderson of Homer, IL. Also surviving are four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.
The family extends special gratitude for those who provided care during her years at Imboden Creek Gardens and in her final days at Provena Hospital, Urbana and the Imboden Living Center.
Funeral service will be 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Riverside Baptist Church, 1250 West Mound Road, Decatur, IL. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 until service time. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials gifts are suggested to Riverside Baptist Church or Imboden Creek Gardens Activities Department.
