Milo J. "Jack" See's Obituary
Milo J. “Jack” See, of Waconia MN, formerly of Decatur, journeyed home to God and family on Monday, February 24, 2014.
Jack was born in Decatur, Illinois on August 12, 1926 the son of Milo J. and Regina (Cantwell) See. He graduated from St. Teresa High School in 1944 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was commissioned ensign and served on active duty for 2 years before being honorably discharged. In 1950 Jack enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant. He served in Korea in 1951 with the 1st Marine Division as a platoon leader. During his tour in Korea he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart with a military disability. Jack served in the USMC from 1950-1954 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.
He attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. Jack graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Journalism, followed by a Law Degree in 1965. He married Hilary (Bowman) in 1966 and resided in Decatur. Jack practiced law in Decatur and Lincoln until retiring in 1996.
Throughout his life he was an active sportsman. He played football and basketball for St. Teresa High School and was active in intramural sports during his university years. He was also involved in boxing during his military stint. Jack enjoyed swimming throughout most of his adult years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Jack was a member of several veterans groups and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Thomas Church, St. Patrick’s Church, and Holy Family Church in Decatur.
Surviving is his daughter, Kathy (Ron) Fiala of Victoria, MN; sister, Sue (Bob) Jones of Mt. Zion, IL; brother, Bill (Loretta) See of AL; 8 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Hilary (Bowman) See, parents Milo and Regina See, step daughter Connie Laura Ewing, sisters: Patricia Metzger, Jane Billman, Mary Catherine See, and brothers James See and Jerry See.
He loved God, his family, and his country.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2014, in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Rev. Joe Molloy, celebrant. Burial with military rites will be in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur.
