Paul Smith was a man often talked about in our home. He lived just a mile or so from the house I grew up in, and I vividly remember visiting him and Dottie countless times. I remember making cinnamon rolls and salsa with Dottie and Paul and Toto not far away. Even as a kid, I knew those two were special by the way my dad spoke of them and the stories he shared about them and Craig and Dave.
Dottie always made room for my dad in their home he knew he belonged there. She wasn’t afraid to yell at him or put him in his place either 🙂. He was very much the red headed son, and everyone knew it!!
Paul and Dottie taught my dad so many good things, and without their love, support, and belief in him, he would not be where he is today. They will forever hold a special place in the hearts of my mom, my dad, and all of the Gillmar kids.
Thank you, Paul, for loving him and treating him as one of the family. You were such a blessing to him and to all of us. I am deeply grateful that my dad has your two amazing sons as his best friends. Friendships like theirs are rare, and you are a true testament to strength, love, and family. The way you, Dottie, Craig and Dave love my dad showed me from a very young age that family isn’t defined by someone who is blood, it’s a choice that’s made when you love someone and when you continue to show up good or bad. You will be missed!!!!
