I lived across the street from Nellie & Carl Armstrong until I was 8 yrs old. They were like grandparents to me and the rest of the family were always "just like part of my family". Even after we moved to another house in Moweaqua, I used go back years later to visit and every time was welcomed in with a smile by all.Dick (known then as Dickie Armstrong) was almost 3 yrs older than I was so he was the "big brother". My friend in their family was Linda Jane Smith and we were like sisters. Dick steered clear of us girls at that time because mostly we played dress up on their front porch in his Mother's and Aunts' clothes. In those days, young women dressed up in nice dresses & high heels. My husband played football with Dick at Moweaqua High School. Dick was quarterback and a good player. Dean and I are so sorry to hear about your loss. I know he must have been a good man, because he had such nice grandparents. Today, it is icy so that is why we will not be at Dick's Memorial Service.Karen "Kemper" & Dean Wise32 Timber Dr., Pana, Il.
I so loved Dick's dry sense of humor. I always looked forward to the days that he and Anna would volunteer for me at DMH. My deepest sympathies.
We have wonderful memories of Dick. He was a good friend and a true gentleman. Dick was always eager to have a good time and had a great sense of humor. We always had fun when Dick was present. Our sympathy to Anna and his family.Roger and Claudia Metzger
Dick was an awesome man here on earth. He had a great sense of humor. He was especially sweet with our daughter. They met at a Christmas sing at church. They sat by each other. From that moment on, our family called him "Emilie's friend". Anna and Dick usually sat in front of Mitch and me at church. We are so sad that he is not here with us, but, happy for him. To say that he will be greatly missed here is an understatement. We know he will be sharing his kindness and sense of humor with our Lord.
Dick was a wonderful man and a friend to everyone he met.Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, we are so sorry for your loss. God bless you all.Rick and Nancy Gallegos
Every New Years Day I remember the college bowl party's we held together in Rockford. We had a tv in every room so no need to miss the action. We had country ham and black eyed peas. Those were the best Football Fanatics Bowls ever! Dick was a marvelous friend, father, husband, grandfather and role model.
Anna, I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of "running into" you and Dick at various places in Decatur. You always were happy when we would see you, and I am grateful that you felt blessed. May you and your family feel the peace that only God can give you during this difficult time. God Bless You, Barb Bartison
Dick was one of the first people I met upon my return to Rfd working for State Farm. He was always a joy to talk to. We had some laughs and good times even in the crazy world of insurance. His wisdom and friendship will be remembered forever. He listened intently, always took the time to ponder the best solution, and shared it with compassion. To his family we pray for God's strength and peace during this time. Most Sincerely,Brian & Liz Boyer
