Richard Armstrong's Obituary
Richard K. (Dick) Armstrong, 77, of Decatur, IL passed away in his home on January 5, 2017.
The family will host a memorial service on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the First United Methodist Church, Decatur with Rev. Miley Palmer officiating. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow.
Dick was born on March 25, 1939 in Moweaqua, IL to Elizabeth Jane Armstrong. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University where he was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity. He married Sue Bartlett of Watseka, IL on August 14, 1960. They lived and were active members of their communities in Springfield, Marion, and Rockford, IL until her death in 2000. He retired from State Farm Insurance after 25 years as a claims superintendent. Dick married Anna Jordan (Brown) on August 10, 2002. They lived in Venice, FL and Decatur, IL where he was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Golden K Kiwanis International.
Dick is survived by his wife, Anna; children, Betsy (Matthew) Tornatore of Kirksville, MO, and John (Cassandra) Armstrong of Longwood, FL; grandchildren, Maxwell Homor, Joy Homor, Jordan Armstrong, Carlo Tornatore, Luca Tornatore, Riley Armstrong; step-children, Andrea (Alan) Long of Buckeye, AZ, and Mark Brown of Moweaqua, IL; step-grandchildren, Jordan Brown, Griffin Brown, Logan Long; and an extended step-family including four grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Dick was an authentic man who pursued and valued friendships; lifelong, rediscovered, and new ones. His love for his family was unbounded.
Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics Illinois or First United Methodist Church of Decatur designated for Dinner Downtown.
