Richard L (Dick) Delatte, Jr, 86, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 in St John’s Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 6:30 PM Tuesday, January, 24, 2017 in Holy Family Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Joseph M. Molloy V.F. as Celebrant.
Visitation will be 3:30 – 6:30 PM Tuesday in the church. Burial will be 9:30 AM Wednesday in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
Richard was born on February 17, 1930 in New Orleans, LA the son of Richard L. and Helen E. (Olivieri) Delatte Sr. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Sons and Daughters of Ireland, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Knights of Columbus, and Castle William American Legion Post #105. He was a contributing benefactor to the Decatur Children’s Museum of Illinois, and longtime supporter of St. Teresa High School. He retired from ADM in 1995 after 25 years as credit manager. He married Patricia “Pat” Kerrigan on June 6, 1953 in New Orleans, LA. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2003.
Surviving are his sons: Richard L. Delatte, III wife, Michele of Decatur; Daniel E. Delatte wife, Lisa of Decatur; Joseph G. Delatte wife, Cheryl of Virginia Beach, VA; daughters: Faith Ann Carr husband, James of Decatur; Mary Ellen Rous husband, Phil of Peoria; sister, Mary Chatelain of Tampa, FL; brother, Gerard Delatte Sr. wife, Cynthia of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren: Christopher Delatte wife, Brittany of Mt. Zion; Michael Delatte of Decatur; Jeffrey Delatte wife, Kaitlyn of New Orleans, LA; Ryan Delatte of Dunedin, FL; Kyle Delatte of Las Vegas, NV; Patrick Delatte wife, Allyssa of Decatur; Colleen Thompson husband, Patrick of Virginia Beach, VA; Allison Davis husband, Michael of Virginia Beach, VA; Mallory Vaughn husband, Jared of Derry, NH; Sean Delatte of Virginia Beach, VA; Kathleen Bishop of Decatur; Sydney Rous of Peoria; special friend, Phyllis Smith; additional step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister, Helen C. Delatte.
Lovingly known as “Papa” or “Big Papa” to his children and their families, Dick enjoyed time with his family and friends. He delighted in the activities and successes of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed talking about them to everyone he met. He devoted time and talent to the church and dedicated his professional life to exemplary work and leadership. Locally, Dick celebrated his Cajun and Irish roots through food and festivities consistent with his Louisiana heritage. He participated in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade with The Sons and Daughters of Ireland. An avid sportsman and fisherman, Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
