Robert Lee Minks' Obituary
Decatur-Robert Lee Minks, 83, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015 in his home with his family by his side.
Bob was born February 4, 1932 in Argenta, Illinois, the son of John C. and Weltha (Williams) Minks. He was previously employed with Sunshine Dairy, Yellow Cab, and Mueller Company. He retired from Mueller Company after thirty years of service. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and Habitat for Humanity. Bob was one of those rare, selfless individuals who placed the needs of others before himself. He loved his family. He loved his wife’s cooking. A perfect day for him included a family meal, cooked by his wife, with all of his loved ones in attendance. He loved his Decatur community. He was active in Habitat for Humanity and he was active in his church. He lived the life of a working man, with simple needs and simple pleasures. All those who knew him are left with memories of his kind-heartedness, his loving nature and his frequent but sometimes misguided jokes. He will be sorely missed. He married Joanne Humphrey September 28, 1951. They shared over sixty-three years together.
Bob leaves behind his wife Joanne, children Catherine Wood (William), Susan Wayne (Paul), Thomas Minks (Diane), brother Glen Minks (Ruby), grandchildren Michelle Merritt (Jason Mutzfeld), Dr. Michael Merritt (Nikcole), Meghan Melcher, Austin Minks, Ryan Wood, Bernadette Luebberst, Regina Wayne, Jimmy Jimenez, and Dr. Dawn Wehking, and seven great-grandchildren.
Bob was reunited in Heaven with his parents, brother John C. Minks Jr., and sister Mary Ann Curry.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Bob’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2160 N Edward St, Decatur, with Rev. Rick Weltin, Celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity or St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
