Rosaleen H. Schmutz's Obituary
Rosaleen H. Schmutz, 91, of Decatur, died on Monday, June 26, 2006 in St. Mary's Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be 10 am Saturday, July 1, 2006 in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Very Rev. James O'Shea celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Vigil prayer service will be at 4:30 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Rosaleen was born on Jan. 10, 1915 in Cleveland OH, and was then raised in Palmerton, PA by her parents, Dominic and Bridget Ellen Connelly Hatcher. She worked for a few years as a substitute teacher at St. Thomas Catholic School. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of America, originator of the Writer's Guild in Allentown PA in 1939, and spent many hours in Perpetual Adoration at St. Mary's Hospital Chapel. She was a published writer of poems and short stories. Rosaleen married George H. Schmutz on Dec. 23, 1937 in Allentown PA and he preceded her in death on August 25, 1988.
Surviving are her children: David wife, Mary Theresa of Aurora; Larry wife, Connie Schmutz of Independence, MO; and Donald Schmutz of Decatur. Grandchildren: Danyel wife, Sharon Schmutz of Orlando, FL; Jeremey wife, Jane Schmutz and Corrine husband, James Retter all of California.
Rosaleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother.
