Rosalia Marie Kerns' Obituary
Rosalia Marie “Rose” Kerns, 57, of Decatur, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at her home with her family at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rose was born September 19, 1950, in Chicago, the daughter of Ronald N. and MaryAnn G. Klimek Rivette. Rose married Joseph S. Kerns on November 3, 1973 in Chicago. She was employed as a legal secretary for Samuels Miller Schroeder Jackson & Sly. Rose was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church singing in the choir and operating the gift shop. Previously, she worked with the pre-school programs at St. Thomas and Our Lady of Lourdes.
She is survived by her husband, Joe of Decatur; children: Elizabeth Timothy Dallas of Oswego, Katherine Kerns of Chicago and Kevin Kerns of St. Louis; grandchildren: Colin, Clare, and Stephen Dallas; sister, Helen Robert Scheiber of Alsip and brother, Edward Barbara Rivette of Westchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial: 11 am, Thursday, May 22, 2008 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment: 12 pm, Friday, May 23, 2008 in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Worth, IL. Memorial gifts are suggested to: Our Lady of Lourdes School, St. Teresa High School or Decatur Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Rose was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank all the many people who were praying for her and who offered encouragement, help, and concern. We would especially like to thank Dr. Benjamin Esparaz, Ann Disney, and the staff at Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois. We would also like to thank the staffs at DMH Home Healthcare and Hospice.
