We took our triplets to Decatur for a visit when they were babies. I remember Aunt Shirley was sitting at a kitchen table. It might have been at Cathy's house. I gave Michael to Aunt Shirley and he sat on her lap while I did something. When I was done, I tried to pick Michael back up but he clutched her shirt and shrieked. I let go and said "Ok. Michael stays with Aunt Shirley." I like to think it made her happy he wanted to stay with her. Those of us who know Michael now might suspect even as a baby he recognized the table as the place where food eventually appears but let's go with the Aunt Shirley theory.
One Christmas, Rob wanted a Chicago Blackhawks jersey. I was living in Chicago at the time so I did have access to such an item. I didn't however have any frame of reference for what a jersey looked like. I found a jersey in a store in Chicago and bought it. My guess is there was probably a sign that said "Chicago Blackhawks jersey" which would have been the only way for me to find one. I had no idea if it was what Rob wanted or not. I remember calling Aunt Shirley. I told her I wasn't sure if it was what Rob wanted and that it was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen. She said "Then it's probably exactly what he wants."
I remember hiding behind the couch with Bud one time when I was little. Bud had a laughing box. Our plan was to turn it on when Shirley came into the room and scare her. The problem was I was giggling so much she knew we were there. She laughed and rolled her eyes at us.
