First day of 1st grade I started crying. I cried so hard for so long, my teacher (Mrs Utterback) decided to get my brother to come down to console me. Steve came into the room and asked me “why are you crying“. I told him because I didn’t want to be alone. Steve said “you’re not alone there’s a whole classroom full of kids here and my teacher was there too”. I asked Steve if he would just stay there with me but he told me “I already know the stuff that you’re going to learn so I need to get back to my class and if you need me, I’m just down the hallway“. After several attempts, he told me I would be OK so just stop crying and then he left my class. The school day did finally end and he was right, I ended up being just fine knowing he was close by if I needed him. Well brother I have shed some tears these past few days but I know that if I need you, you are still close by.
When teenagers, before Steve left for the Army, he and my sister, Donna double dated with my boyfriend and I. We went to see Goldfinger at the old Avon theatre.
