Dr. Stephen G. Hebenstreit's Obituary
Dr. Steve “Sphen” Hebenstreit, son of Richard Hebenstreit and Mary Ellen Moran Hebenstreit, beloved brother & son, passed away unexpectedly on May 1st, 2012 in Sweetwater, TX.
Steve was born May 30, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in Decatur, IL as a member of the Class of 1982. Steve was a 1986 alumnus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After working 2 years at Meadow Gold Dairy as a lab technician he entered medical school. In 1994 he graduated with his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the College of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery at Des Moines University. He subsequently completed his residency at various hospitals in Minneapolis and Worthington, Minnesota, including the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.
For the last 15 years Steve resided in Arlington, Texas, practicing medicine in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area. During this time he worked for Senior Care Associates of Texas and, more recently, Visiting Physicians Association VPA.
His mother Mary Ellen and sister Lynn Marie preceded him in death.
Surviving are his father, Richard J. Hebenstreit of Decatur; brothers: John Lana, Mt. Pulaski, Illinois, Mike Daynna, Bloomington, Illinois, and Mark Melanie, Springfield, Illinois; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service at 5:30. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be 10 am Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church; Rev. Richard Weltin, celebrant. Burial will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
Steve was a phenomenal guitarist, lover of music, classic movies, fishing, and philosophy. He was an intellectual, deep-thinker, who had a positive influence on many lives.
Dr. Steve was loved by his staff and patients for his sense of humor and bedside manner.
We will all miss him very much.
