My cousin Tim McFadden was a remarkable man. We were contemporaries, born about two months apart. Our dads, Bob and Bill, were brothers and also close friends throughout their lives.
I always admired Tim for his love of family, his courage, his physical strength, intelligence and integrity.
He was someone who would stand up for you, who always had your back. His love was fierce.
Although Tim and I did not hang out much growing up, I always felt a special bond with him and his siblings. Tim always honored our connection, our roots, and treated me with great kindness and good humor.
As kids we worked together on a roguing crew at Bear Hybrid Corn Co. and had many good discussions walking through the fields cutting out volunteer corn on hot summer days.
When we were teenagers he expressed to me that the goal of one’s life should be to serve humanity. And I think he did that in his life and career.
I moved to Northern New York, but through the years I saw Tim from time to time in Decatur and always enjoyed catching up with him. Tim and Debbie were very kind to my mom.
Tim was devout in his faith, loved deeply and had a warrior’s spirit. My life is richer for having known him.
May God bless and comfort his family. May Tim rest in peace and rise in glory.
