Virginia Bowman's Obituary
Virginia Bowman Risley, 91, of Palm Coast FL, formerly of Decatur passed away on Friday, November 5, 2010 in her home.
She was born on June 25, 1919, the daughter of Philip Risley and Katherine Dunne Risley. Virginia worked for the A.E. Staley Co., until her marriage to Glenn Robert Bob Bowman in Colorado Springs, CO. on August 8, 1942. Later on she was employed at Carson Pierre Scott & Co. Upon retiring, she and Bob traveled and became dedicated volunteers at St Mary’s logging in 4811 hours of service. A devoted Catholic, she was a member for years at St Patrick’s, later Holy Family and Santa Maria del Mar in Palm Coast, FL. Virginia loved to sing performing on several radio shows when she was younger. She was an avid reader of mystery novels, doing the daily crossword puzzle, getting her nails and hair done, and, of course SHOPPING with her daughters.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob November 4, 2001, her Aunt Margaret Dunne, who raised her from the age of 13, numerous "sister and brother" cousins and a sister-in-law, Virginia Bowman Dixon.
She touched many lives with her humorous spirit and will be deeply missed, but will forever live in our hearts. Virginia leaves behind her children: Michael BowmanMarsha of Lapeer, MI; Jim BowmanRobin of Decatur; David Bowman Lynn of Decatur; Daniel Bowman Linda of North Olmstead, OH; Mary K. Stark Bill, and Carol Stripling Steve of Palm Coast, FL; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, brother-in-law, Thomas E. Bowman Mary of Decatur; her "sister" cousin Catherine Barron of California., and several second and third cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, November 12, 2010 in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Molloy as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before service in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church or St Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary.
