William F. "Bud" Tyus' Obituary
William F. Tyus, 59, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2004 departing this earth but leaving behind fond memories of a man dedicated to his friends, family and his work.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 16, 2004 in The Church of the Living God P.G.T. #1. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home.
Known affectionately as "Bud" by most, William was born December 16, 1944 the youngest son of Fred and Geneva Tyus in Brownsville, TN. Following service in the U.S. Army, he returned to Decatur and worked a few jobs before beginning a career at the Decatur Herald & Review that spanned more than 37 years and helped to bring numerous awards both individually and throughout the organization. Outside the office he was an active bowler and spent endless hours woodworking, absorbed by the buzz of saws and the excitement that can come from creating something from nothing. Most recently, he had spent much time and effort remodeling properties.
William's happiest moments, however, came when he was with his family. Survivors include wife Sherley and son Billy, brothers Fred Virginia, Rick Jessie, John, Curtis Anna, Jerone Gloria, sisters Ardelia Paul, Celestia Rucker, Geraldine Perry, Edna Mae Wilder Gene, sisters-in-law Delores Rawls, Christine Owens Orville, Evon Robinson, Dorothy Edwards Isaac, Elease Meeks, Ruthie Singleton Roosevelt, Ada Owens and brothers-in-law Rudolph Meeks Geraldine, Percy Meeks Jeanette, and Earl Meeks. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
