Just now finding out about Dr. Grieve's passing. I was a student of his at Richland around 1988-90---took a couple of Asian History classes. Absolutely enjoyed them and learned as much as an Army grunt could from a sharp Marine. He let me call him "Doc" or "Sir", and with all respect. Loved that guy, and along with Dr. John Cordulack at RCC and Dr. Donald Tingley at EIU, they laid a solid foundation of education in American and World History that I cherish to this day, and continue to build upon professionally. I think his book on "The American Military Mission to China, 1941-1942" is a brilliant addition to today's understanding of our historical relationship with that nation, which is currently trying to eat our lunch---Big shots should read it and get wise. To all of Dr. Grieve's family, I am so sorry for your loss. My wife and I helped my Mom and our family to bury my Pop last year at Camp Butler, Section O---Korean War combat medic---I preached the funeral, which was also at Moran's---Dad was 88. So if you will permit a total stranger to intrude upon your mourning, in a way, I know how you feel, and I am hurting for you, and my wife and I are praying for you all. God Bless. Rev. Matt Underwood, Conservative Southern Baptist minister.
