Dr. William G. Grieve's Obituary
Dr. William George Grieve, 84, of Forsyth, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021 in Hickory Point Christian Village.
Bill was born January 25, 1937 in Park Ridge, IL to Gilbert G. and Florence Schlieker Grieve. He was married to Judith Noe from 1961 to 1983. He married Susan E. Johnson in June 1986, who survives him.
He leaves daughters: Cynthia L. (Tom) Wene; Kirsten L. (Stephen Muzzatti) Grieve; Tracie S. (Brian) Dougan; Stephanie E. (Tim) Pyles. Bill also leaves grandsons: Tyler Rueff, Cody Rueff, and Jim Dougan; step-grandchildren: Graham Wene, Emma Snearly, Whitney Lewis.
Bill received his B.A. from Wabash College, and a M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois majoring in Chinese history. He studied for a semester in Taiwan and made several trips to China and the Far East during his career.
He proudly served almost 30 years in the United States Marine Corps Active and Reserve. He participated in several NATO exercises and taught seminars at the Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA.
Bill was one of the first staff hired at Richland Community College and helped build the Social Science Department. He primarily served as Dean of the Social Science Division, but held many titles during his 32-year career. Bill always taught classes to stay in touch with students and thought that was one of his most important duties.
Services to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday (February 4, 2021) at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton. In lieu of flowers, please give to your favorite animal shelter or Humane Society. CDC guidelines will be followed, and masks are required for those in attendance.
