David brings more than 30 years of industry experience to his role as general manager at Moran & Goebel. Working in a funeral home part time while he worked on his family farm, he found his calling in the funeral services industry after his father’s death in 1987.
After graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1989, David was employed at a funeral home in Springfield, Illinois, for nearly five years. From there, David moved to Decatur and began his career at J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home – now Moran & Goebel Funeral Home.
David oversees all daily operations for both Moran & Goebel and Graceland Fairlawn, a sister property of Moran & Goebel, as the General Manager. This includes the funeral home, crematory, cemetery and care centers. He is also a licensed funeral director and embalmer.
“I grew up in the funeral services industry, helping out at my uncle’s funeral home when I was young,” David says. “There isn’t another job more rewarding. Helping families through this chapter of their lives and providing them with the peace they need gives meaning to the work we do.”
David and his wife Karen (Weaver), a native of Taylorville, IL, live in Mt. Zion and are members of Holy Family Catholic Church. They are the proud parents of four children: Joshua, Kayla, Jessica, and Carson; loving grandparents of Addison, Sophia, Caleb, Emma and Jacey and devoted pet parents to Maggie a Yorkie/Maltese.
