Bernard Frederick “Fred” Evans, Jr., 73, of Springfield, passed away Thursday evening, May 10, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center, with his family by his side.

Fred was born April 1, 1945, in Decatur, IL, to Bernard F. and Maxine L. (White) Evans, Sr. He married Katherine Frances Miller on June 18, 1966, in Decatur, IL. Fred was a retired corporal for the Macon County Sheriffs Department of Corrections.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kay; two sons, Jeffrey (Debbie) Evans of Decatur, IL and James (Jackie) Evans of Morris, IL; four grandchildren, Pamela, Kayla, Joe and Carlie; three brothers, Gary (Jill) Evans of Monticello, IL, Mike (Sharon) Evans of Decatur and Mark (Tammy) Evans of Cowden, IL; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Evans of Soddy Daisy, TN and Vicky Evans of Oreana, IL; and his buddy, Schultzy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Terry and Ronnie Evans.

  1. This is your cousin Snook, miss seeing you guys. Try to come to MILLER HOG ROAST this year, Kay & Fred came a few times, come with her this year, usually 2nd or 3rd Sat. in Oct. We'll set date for sure later in June or July. Kay has my ph number.

  2. I always enjoyed when Fred was out in the golf cart with Schultzy we would stop and talk. I will miss see him out riding.

  3. Ran around with Fred and Ron as kids. worked on their dads farm with them. We swam in the old gravel pit on Saturday night. Chased pigs and set up nights with sows delivering pigs. We enjoyed life and had fun doing it. Rest both of you and say hi to your folks for me. See you on the other side

  4. Dad I know you will always be there watching over us!!! I just want you to know that you are my hero!!! I just hope I can be half the man you were!!! I love you so much dad and I miss you more!!!
